Lightning Strikes @ 1st Ever home game...

The much anticipated first home game was scheduled for Feb 25, 12pm.....with the clock set Tayah, Danielle, Georgia and Dave the engine room of the Lightning admin commenced  preparations for an event, for a team, for a community that had never before entered the national sporting arena. The odds were stacked against them to be ready in time, not to mention the pressure on the team itself with Coach Noeline Taurua quietly confident, you can never be sure. But with member numbers swelling beyond the 2,000 mark earlier in the week and confirmation that the innagural game was  a sell out, the stage was set and both teams Delivered....

The team behind the team made sure the venue, parking, production and event management ran smoothly and the Lightning themselves didn't dissapoint a vocal home crowd defeating the Melbourne Vixens with a convinving 58 - 52...

We couldn't be prouder of our girls and they we're pretty impressed with the support of the Sunny Coast crowd who were with them every step of the way, with comemorative cup cakes and supporter towelettes.

It was a tough game, with the Vixens not taking a backward step, burstig out of the blocks early with a 4 goal lead going into the first break, by half time it was 27 all, and in the third Lightning Struck, with some spirited play from Kelsey Browne, Carla Mostert, (c) Geva Mentor and the unstoppable Caitlin Bassett (a record 51/54) the lightning took the lead and never looked back. A Gritty, exciting and physical encounter is how the inaugural game will be remebered.
