There's less than a week for Sunshine and Cooloola Coast residents to nominate a local legend to carry the Queen's baton for next year's Commonwealth Games.

The baton arrives in the region on March 26th next year, as it makes it way toward the Gold Coast for the opening ceremony.

Baton spokesperson Otto Kamenzin says its a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"You'll be only person at that time carrying the Queen's baton and it really is a huge honour."
