The child star from the hit sitcom Friends has said that Jennifer Aniston was tough to work with - because he was in love with her.

Cole Sprouse, now 24, shared the role of Ross Geller's (David Schwimmer) son Ben with his twin brother Dylan when they were just seven.

But the actor, who now stars in a US TV adaptation of the Archie Comics, Riverdale, said that he had a difficult time shooting scenes with his screen dad's girlfriend Rachel Green, played by Aniston in the series that ran from 1994 to 2004.

He told the New York Post: "I had a really, really hard time working with Aniston because I was so in love with her. I was infatuated.

"I was speechless - I'd get all bubbly and forget my lines and completely blank. It was so difficult."

Sprouse said that even as a small child, he realised what a huge program he was a part of and felt the pressure when he was at work.

"The scale was just tremendous and you felt it when you stepped on set, even as a kid.

"It was challenging because I was a small kid who was working with these sort of megalithic actors at the time. It was quite intimidating.

"But it was a really wonderful experience. They were all tremendously nice."

He added that he had not seen any of the cast, which also included Courtney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and Lisa Kudrow, since his role ended.
