Prey the Review

Prey is the new first person shooter "reboot" rather than sequel in fact I'd go as far as saying it is a complete reimagining of the franchise.

and yes its PREY with an E not to be confused with MC HAMMERS semi-hit from 1990 - PRAY

ok, now that we have indulged in that lets get back to talking about the game. The original PREY was a brilliant and fresh take on the 1st person genre that was starting to get a little repetative.

Human Head Studios and 3D Realms created a fun game in 2006 but now its over 10 years later and what can we expect from the new PREY.

Well for a start, Bethesda don't make rubbish games. They are the absolute best at story driven, action packed games that emerse you completely.

The game is graphically amazing no matter what system you play it on but for me it was hard to go past the crisp speed of the PC version. In fact the controls were far better on PC as well. Consoles are pretty good at most first person shooters but with Prey you are constantly looking back and unless you set sensitivity to really high on your console contoller its really hard to keep up with the pace of the game.

The move to a space station setting for this title gives it a real "Half Life" feel. I'm not saying that this is a masterpiece like that game but I'm not saying it's not either. It just reminded me of those fantastic stories.

the weapons are varied and unique enough to make the game interesting, it's not just about rolling around with a shotgun, why do that when you can use a GLOO GUN!

Alien enemies were either scary and hard, or laughable and easy, there didn't seem to be a middle ground and ammo is really scarce so you spend a fair bit of time hitting things with a wrench after failing to stealth your way past sections.

Overall the game is a nice game with a fair bit of tension, worth a look on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

I give it a 3 out 5
