police blitz

Police conducted 5,225 random breath tests on Friday and Saturday night with 11 people being charged for drink driving including three high range drink drivers and 13 drivers testing positive for drugs during a traffic operation in the Maroochydore CBD.

Maroochydore police were joined by Brisbane based units including the Roadside Drug Testing Unit, Road Policing Taskforce and the Drug Detection Dog Unit in this large scale operation targeting Fatal Five offences.

In addition to the positive drink and drug drivers, four drivers were unlicensed, three vehicles was unregistered, 17 charges were laid against several offenders for a variety of criminal matters and 17 traffic infringement notices were issued for various offences.

Coordinator of the operation Acting Sergeant Rob Gwillim said police have again seen motorists endangering the lives of innocent pedestrians and other road users.

“Drivers must understand they have a responsibility not only for their own behaviour but for the safety of other people in the vehicle, other road users and pedestrians every time they operate a motor vehicle,” Acting Sergeant Gwillim said.
