Ironman 70.3 World Championships 2016

The IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship will see the world’s toughest and most competitive athletes ascend on the Sunshine Coast for a gruelling physical and emotional race to the finish line.    

Over 130,000 athletes participated in a season of qualifying races for the championship, a series which consists of over 85 events in locations such as Australia, Germany, South Africa and Switzerland.    

The IRONMAN 70.3 event includes a 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run.   

Participants in the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship will range in age from 18 to 75-plus, and will represent over 70 countries. Close to 3,000 athletes will be competing.

Changed traffic conditions

A number of road closures and changed traffic conditions will be in place during the event.

Course management

The course will be manned by QLD Police and a specialist road management company, along with volunteers.  Road closures and detours will be in clearly shown; please follow all directions given by the event management team.

Public transport

All bus services impacted by the event will be redirected as required. For updated bus timetables visit the Translink website and access the Journey Planner application. (please note: this information will be available closer to the event).
Remember to plan ahead, allow extra travel time when travelling to the event and follow the signage in place.

Taxis

Ring Suncoast Cabs on 131 008. Plan ahead and book online by visiting the suncoastcabs website.

Please note: Mooloolaba Esplanade Taxi Rank will be relocated to Venning Street (out the front of Mantra Hotel) from 5:00am Friday 2 September until 11:00pm Sunday 4 September.

Event parking

Free event parking is available in Mari Street, Alexandra Headland. Parking will be managed by the Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club.

Saturday 3rd September

8:00am – 6:00pm

Access to Mari St is unrestricted on Saturday.

Sunday 4th September

4:30am – 8.00am and 1.30pm - 4:30pm

Access to Mari Street will be via Pacific Terrace and Alexandra Parade.

Public amenities

All public amenities will remain open throughout the duration of the event.
